Our art holidays are currently suspended owing to Covid-19 but we are pleased to be able to offer self-catering holiday accommodation in both the main farmhouse and the cottage. The two properties together will sleep 19 and may be rented as one unit or separately.
Shorland Old Farm is a 17C Grade II listed farmhouse set in the rolling North Devon countryside with glorious views over Exmoor. Although it is no longer a working farm, it is set in its own fourteen acres of gardens, woodland and pasture, with streams, ponds, and an old limekiln and quarry to explore.
The main farmhouse offers 8 en-suite bedrooms – 5 kingsize and 3 twins, sleeping 16, plus there is an extra child’s bed available on a mezzanine level in one of the kingsize rooms. Three bedroom are ground floor and five on the first floor.
There is a large guest lounge with Freesat TV and DVD player, a dining room with a table that can seat 14, a second, smaller lounge with Freesat TV and DVD player, and a kitchen with a 4-oven AGA, dishwasher, and a table seating 6-8. A utility room with two washing machines and a tumble drier is also available for guest use.
The separate, self-contained Shorland Cottage has a bright, airy, open-plan living area on the first floor with a small kitchen area, a dining table and chairs, two sofas, Freesat TV and DVD player. Downstairs is a main bedroom that can be made up as twin beds or a superking-size double, a second single bedroom, and a family bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The cottage is accessed at first floor level via an external staircase so may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.
Shorland Old Farm is 10 miles from Lynmouth, where Exmoor meets the sea. Barnstaple, with all the facilties of a main town is 12 miles away. There are beaches galore to choose from within easy driving distance, including the award winning 2-mile stretch of sand and dunes at Woolacombe. Combe Martin is 7 miles away. Exmoor is on the doorstep with its coastline, open moorland and deep, wooded river valleys – including Doone Valley – a paradise for walkers, wildlife lovers, photographers and artists, or just good old-fashioned family picnics and days out.
Shorland Old Farm is a 350-year-old property built on the side of a hill. Consequently, there are steps and slopes all around the property so is not suitable for wheelchair users. For your peace of mind
With Covid-19 at the forefront of all our minds, we will only be letting the two properties on a week on / week off basis. Between bookings they will be thoroughly cleaned and left for the full week so that guests can have confidence they are Covid-secure.
Mark and Sandy live on site but in a separate, self-contained part of the building where they will always be available should you require any help with anything, but will also respect your privacy and keep well out of your way while you enjoy your stay.
