Our art holidays are currently suspended owing to Covid-19 but we are pleased to offer self-catering holiday accommodation in the main farmhouse and Shorland Cottage.  The two properties together will sleep 19 and may be rented as one unit or separately.

From Monday 14 September, the government has ruled that people may only gather in groups of up to 6 (or one household / bubble if that numbers more than 6).  On that basis, we have changed our pricing for the main farmhouse accordingly and are also offering the option of a reduced package of accommodation in the Upper Farmhouse only.

Shorland Old Farm is a 17C Grade II listed farmhouse set in the rolling North Devon countryside with glorious views over Exmoor.  Although it is no longer a working farm, it is set in its own fourteen acres of gardens, woodland and pasture, with streams, ponds, and an old limekiln and quarry to explore. it features stone fireplaces, painted stone walls, original beam and loads of character.

To comply with new government rules, we can only accept bookings from 1 household / bubble, or for parties of up to six people.  For this reason, we have reduced our prices and the number of bedrooms available.  The standard accommodation for the whole house is now priced for 4 bedrooms.  However, a maximum of 4 other bedrooms are available @ £200 per bedroom per week.

Accommodation

The main farmhouse offers spacious family accommodation (and perfect for remaining socially distanced while enjoying each other’s company), with a choice of 4 en-suite, cottage-style bedrooms – a flexible mixture of kingsize and twin rooms on ground and first floor level, sleeping a maximum of 8. Up to 4 more bedrooms may be booked separately at a cost of £200 per bedroom per week. One of the first floor bedrooms also has an extra single bed on a mezzanine level if required.

Most of the en-suites are shower rooms, but there are two ground floor bathrooms that also have baths.  A couple of the kingsize beds may also be made up as twins, so there is extra flexibility in the sleeping arrangements.

Dining for up to 14 in farmhouse

The Main Farmhouse offers two beamed lounges. The large lounge in the upper house has four comfy sofas and two armchairs and can comfortably seat 12, There’s a Freesat TV, DVD player, CD player and a woodburning stove. A lobby off the top of the lounge is equipped with an extra fridge, handy for chilling drinks, and has a door opening onto the gardens at the front of the house.  There is also a cosy, smaller lounge at the lower end of the house, with a sofa and three armchairs, Freesat TV, DVD player, CD player, and woodburner.  Between the two lounges, the beamed dining room has seating for up to 14 around a large farmhouse table, is amply supplied with crockery and cutlery for large numbers, also has its own woodburning stove in an old stone fireplace, and a door opening onto the gardens at the front of the house.

The kitchen is well-equipped for catering for a large group, with a 4-oven AGA, dishwasher, two fridges, a freezer, and a raised dining area with a table seating up to 8 people.  A stable door opens onto an enclosed garden at the rear.  A laundry room with two  washing machines and a tumble drier is also available for guest use.

Behind the house is a private, enclosed rear garden, with a lawn and large patio, exclusively for use of guests in the farmhouse.  A (charcoal) barbecue and outdoor seating are provided. The rest of the gardens and grounds are shared with anyone renting Shorland Cottage (the cottage also has its own private garden space separate to the main house).

For your peace of mind

With Covid-19 at the forefront of all our minds, we will only be letting the main farmhouse on a week on / week off basis allow for quarantine times before and after bookings.  Between bookings it will be thoroughly cleaned and left for a minimum of 72 hours so that guests can be confident it is Covid-secure.

Mark and Sandy live on site but in a separate, self-contained part of the building where they will be available should you require any help with anything, but will also respect your privacy and keep well out of your way while you enjoy your stay.
