19 – 24 September
About the course
Line & wash technique can be a most attractive diversion from using paint alone. A wash can be done with watercolour, watered down acrylics or even inks. Just a few added pen lines can really enhance a painting. Alternatively a very detailed drawing can be completed with just a hint of washed-in colour. You can add as much or as little pen work as you wish. Line and wash is often used as an introduction to watercolour painting but is also a satisfying technique for those already experienced with other media.
In this course, we will experiment with line and wash in two ways; putting the wash down first then doing the drawing, also putting washes over a ready drawn picture. We will also try out both watercolour and watersoluble pencils; they are quite different. You will be able to choose your own topics as not everyone wants to draw or paint the same things!
Anne believes that everyone can draw and paint and her courses are popular because they are relaxed and fun. She believes that the way we interpret our surroundings is very individual and she encourages her students to paint in their own style. It does not matter if you are a total beginner or a more experienced artist, you can work at your own pace. Shorland has a very large, fully equipped studio, so inclement weather is never a problem.
The holiday runs from 4pm on Sunday 19 September to 10am, after breakfast, Friday 24 September, with 4 day’s tuition and 5 nights’ accommodation.
